::Departments : Pre-Clinical : BIOCHEMISTRY

                          Biochemistry, a modern science relies on sophisticated instruments to dissect the architecture and operation of biological systems that are inaccessible to human senses.
                 The Department of Biochemistry budded during 1961 and headed by various eminent professors like Dr.Gopalakrishnan, Dr.Sulochana etc. The department plays important role in rendering services both in academic and diagnostic fields. In academic side it is engaged in conducting MD Post Graduate Course with annual intake of three candidates per year and IMBBS with annual intake of 150 per year. The department is also engaged in conducting paramedical courses like DMLT, D.Pharm and teaching sessions are also conducted for dialysis technicians and theatre assistants.

                Postgraduate courses commenced with a single candidate since 1982 and the number has been increased to three from 2008. Journal clubs, seminars and symposiums are regularly conducted in the department. Internet facilities are available for the purpose of academic activities.

                Our 24 hours laboratory service is catering the needs of around 1000 population per day. The laboratory is equipped with the required instruments like fully automated analyzer, semi autoanalyser, flame photometer, spectrophotometer etc.

                This department has grown steadily since its establishment to meet the clinical challenges. Special investigations like metabolic screening, electrophoresis, chromatography are routinely being done in the laboratory which is separately available in the department. A well equipped endocrinology lab performs investigations like hormonal profile. A fully equipped molecular biology laboratory for research activities like PCR is about to function shortly.

                With the selfless hardworking efforts of the Biochemistry department team, the day is not far off when this “Department” will bloom into an “Institute”.
