SHORT HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY:
Thanjavur Medical College was started in the year 1959. Microbiology is Non clinical Department, belongs to MEDICINE BRANCH IV. Department was situated in 1st floor, TMC in between Pathology &Pharmacology Departments.
In the college Microbiology Department has
1. One Lecture hall to accommodate 150 students
2. Two Demonstration hall’s to accommodate 75students
3. One Student’s lab
4. Separate rooms for all Faculties

Courses offered-MBBS,M.D,DMLT.Theory with Audiovisual aids .
Classes were taken for the clinical PG’S on Basic Medical Sciences
There is a Central Service Laboratory at TMCH. Available facilities in CSL are Bacteriology, Mycology& Serology including Dengue, Hepatitis A,B&E, JE, Chikungunya &Measles , by latex, ELISA &Rapid card tests.
ICTC lab to counsel &screen for HIV at OP building &SRL at college were attached with this department.
EQAS -external quality assessment & Biomedical Waste Management Programmers were conducted by this department.
